Book Review: 10 Great Dates: Connecting Faith, Love & Marriage

If you are looking for deeper spiritual conversations in your marriage relationship, then 10 Great Dates: Connecting Faith, Love & Marriage  by Peter and Heather Larson & David and Claudia Arp is the book for you.

If you are looking for 10 great dates to do instead of converse, this may not be the book for you.

The Larsons and Arps provide great vulnerability as well as transparency in sharing their faith journey as individuals and as married couples. They provide good insights, Biblical content, practical questions and tools for greater conversations.

The topics covered from Connecting Faith and Love to Experiencing God Together to Facing the storms of Life Together are valuable topics for married couples to develop deep roots.

The challenge I saw was the reality these are personal, in-depth and powerful conversations. They require a safe place with privacy to open and share grace and truth in one’s relationship with God and each other. Somehow being on a date with a picnic at the park or while eating dinner out did not seem like a great date, but a limiting one.

The strength of the book is the tools it provides for spiritual conversations and for finding the uniqueness strength of one’s faith relationship you and your spouse bring to your marriage. As they suggest, “Closer to God = Closer to each other.”

This book that focuses on connecting faith, love and marriage is part of a trilogy of 10 great dates. You can check out their web site for more information at 10greatdates.org.

I give the book 4 out of 5 stars. The strength is the great conversations it provides to affirm and grow in one’s walk with God and with each other. The missing star is because the best place I see to have those conversations is one on one and alone. The book is best used by couples and marriage small groups. I could see this as a valuable tool for a group of couples wanting to grow together in their relationship with God and with their spouse and realizing the value of traveling this road with other couples desiring a similar journey.

My thanks to Bethany House for a free copy of 10 Great Dates: Connecting Faith, Love & Marriage  to review. I was not required to give a positive review, just an honest one.
