Soul Food for Friday: Life 101 What is Your Purpose?

One of my favorite books to read in the 1990s were the “101” series. Life 101. Wealth 101. Success 101. They featured some great thoughts and great quotes.

This week’s Soul Food for Friday quote is from The Portable Life 101 by John-Roger and Peter McWilliams:

“What is your purpose? A purpose is something you discover. It’s already there. It’s always been there. You’ve lived your life by it, perhaps without fully realizing it. It’s your bellwether, your personal inner divining rod of truth. It tells you, in any given moment, whether you’re living your life on ‘on purpose’ or not.”

I like this purpose quote because it reminds me God already wired my purpose within me. Often when I have gone on mission trips, people will say that the trip will be “life changing”. I think it’s more “life revealing”. A mission mind has always been there, God is just fanning into flame or bringing forth the flower that was always inside. Perhaps it’s another couple steps in the growth process.

How about you what is life revealing about being “on purpose” in your life this day?

  1. Good thought, Richard. Both “Quitter” by Jon Acuff and “The Seed” by Jon Gordon address the theme of purpose and both suggest our pasts help direct our futures. I believe it was in “Quitter” that Jon Acuff wrote that our purpose was more about recovery than discovery–recovering that part of us revealed in our past experiences, successes, and failures.
